Gov. Corbett's Pa. budget maintains education funding

Gov. Tom Corbett's proposed 2013-14 budget of $27.& billion would not raise taxes on Pennsylvania businesses or working families.
According to the governor's budget fact sheet, released as he gave his budget address today, the budget would:
-- Create an environment where PA employers can add to the more than 100,000 private sector jobs that have been created.
-- Preserve 12,000 transportation jobs, while helping to create an additional 50,000 jobs.
-- Continue to lower taxes on businesses and will preserve critical tax credit programs.
-- Increase the basic education funding by $90 million and include a record amount of state funding ever for basic education.
-- Provide a $1 billion grant program for schools funded by getting the state out of the liquor business.
-- Include a $4.5 million increase for the Pre-K Counts program, which helps with early childhood development.
-- Include a $1.9 million increase for Head Start supplemental assistance to help children in need.
-- Increase funding for Pennsylvania Charter Schools for the Deaf and Blind by $897,000.
-- Preserve funding for higher education, investing $1.58 billion to help keep tuition affordable.
-- Increase funding by $20 million for people with intellectual disabilities to help those waiting for services.
-- Increase funding by $50 million from the Pennsylvania Lottery Fund for older Pennsylvanians.
