Here's the SAS Conference I spoke about Sunday...

PDE's SAS Institute, Bridging Research and Practice, is scheduled for December 5, 2010, through December 8, 2010. The Institute will highlight the Standards Aligned System as a vehicle to enrich curriculum and provide resources for effective classroom delivery. Districts, intermediate units and higher education teacher preparation institutions are invited to attend this four-day event that promises to provide information on current topics, an opportunity to collaborate with colleagues from across the state, and participation in breakout sessions linking SAS to everyday practice. A range of sessions from curriculum mapping to Curriculum Framework to SAS teacher tools will give educators the opportunity to enjoy hands-on experiences and delve more deeply into available resources. All sessions will focus on three overarching Institute goals:

* Use SAS to enhance current practice and improve student achievement

* Use SAS as a resource to facilitate and guide implementation of the National Common Core Standards

* Analyze how the Keystone Exams will aid students in becoming college and career ready

Keynote speakers Jay McTighe and Charlotte Danielson will share their expertise as related to curriculum and teaching while panel discussions will provide in-depth awareness of Common Core Standards and Keystone Exams. This year's Institute will offer small group sessions to both debrief on general session topics as well as delve more deeply into SAS and available resources to enhance professional practice.
